Start by learning the business and the way things work with the credit bureaus. You can get business by referrals such as family, friends, car dealerships, mortgage professionals etc. Don’t expect business to fall on your lap! GO GET IT!
Accreditation and certifications will assist you in starting a business.
Accounting, taxes, financial industry qualifications.
Also, you need to check into the legal aspects of your business: federal, state, county regulations you must abide by and you must know exactly what are your limitations so you can explain to your clients what it is you can do for them without a shadow of a doubt. If you have references, be prepared to present them to your clients. You’ll be handling some delicate situations, so be prepared.
Former work in collections might also be of help.
If you are self-employed you may just work from home so be organized.
